چکیده

In a previous communication we demonstrated that the ability to convert acetate to fatty acids is lowered in the liver of the fasted rat (1). A decreased rate of conversion was observed as early as 12 hours after food was withheld, and within 18 hours the liver had lost, to a great extent,, its ability to incorporate acetate into fatty acids. That this failure in hepatic lipogenesis was related to depressed glycolytic activity was suggested by several types of experiments. It was further pointed out that a reduction in circulating insulin could also have played a part in this defect. Indeed, it has been shown that the addition of insulin to the medium stimulates hepatic lipogenesis from acetate by surviving slices of liver (2, 3). The experiments reported here were designed to explore the interrelation of the actions of glucose and insulin upon hepatic lipogenesis.

The relation of glucose oxidation to lipogenesis in mammary tissue.

Earlier studies with rat liver slices indicated that lipogenesis is dependent upon glucose utilization. Thus, liver slices prepared from fasted rats suffer from a lowered capacity to convert added acetate to fatty arids, and this defect in lipogenesis can be repaired by previous administration of glucose (1). hlore recently it was shown that an increase in fatty acid synthesis from acetate can ...

Effects of Teucrium polium Ethylacetate Extract on Serum, Liver and Muscle Triglyceride Content of Sucrose-induced Insulin Resistance in Rat

Possessing putative hypolipidemic effects, Teucrium polium (TP) have been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in Iran. The aim of the present study was to investigate this effect on the sucrose-induced insulin resistance male rat model. Thirty Wistar male rats weighting 180 ± 20 g were divided into five groups of six each. Four groups were given sucrose 50% in drinking water for 10 weeks. I...

The effect of fasting upon lipogenesis in the intact rat.

Little information is available on the ability of the intact, fasted rat to incorporate acetate carbon into fatty acids and cholesterol. There is evidence that a reduced food intake may lower fatty acid synthesis (I) and that tissues from fasted animals may have a similar defect (2). The intact alloxan-diabetic rat (3,4) and liver slices from such animals (5) also exhibit decreased lipogenesis....

Differential Metabolic Effects of Novel Cilostamide Analogs, Methyl Carbostiryl Derivatives, on Mouse and Hyperglycemic Rat

Objective(s) PDE3 has a functional role in insulin secretion and action. We investigated the metabolic effects of new synthetic PDE3 inhibitors (mc1, mc2, mc5 and mc6), on mice and hyperglycemic rat. Materials and Methods The test compound or solvent was injected subcutaneously to mice, for 7 days. On day 8, blood and liver samples were obtained. In hyperglycemic rat, 0.5 g/kg glucose with o...
